from the exhibit "52 Photographs" photograph by Darin Boville
.
Darin Boville was born in Akron, Ohio. Finding school unchallenging,
he dropped out of high school in his senior year to dedicate himself to
photography. He exhibited in Ohio (Akron, Columbus, Canton, and Oberlin
plus a solo show at the Canton Art Institute) and in New York (one juried
and one group show at the Adams Memorial Gallery). Seven years later, disillusioned
with the artistic potential of photography and with the direction in which
the field was moving, he abandoned his work, determined to make a greater
contribution to the world.
In 1990 he enrolled in the local university and excelled. In 1994,
Mr. Boville was accepted for graduate work at Harvard University, where
he received a masters degree. Following Harvard he reconciled himself with
his previous disillusionment with photography and once again set about
to make photographs.
His first major project, an Internet exhibition entitled "52 Photographs,"
was completed in late July of 1997. This exhibit is made up of black and
white Polaroids from his new work and, as of mid-November, has had nearly
two thousand visitors. Selections from this exhibit have been shown elsewhere
on the World Wide Web, including "ZeroZine," a popular online
arts magazine, and as featured photographer at Abbey Camera's web site
(a major Philadelphia-based photo merchant). Additional selections will
soon be displayed on the web pages of the Center for Photographic Art,
located in Carmel, California. The 52 Photographs exhibit has been rated
"Four Stars" by Gallery-Net and was selected by Stock Solution
as the "Top Photo Site of the Week" on its heavily visited page.
